Final installment of epic’s final installment to be released in 2024.
On the eve of the release of the latest “Hobbit” film, director Peter Jackson has announced that what was to be the last episode in the wildly successful Middle Earth epic will instead be released as three and possibly five films. “At the end of the day, we felt that the complexity of the later chapters simply could not be fully represented in a single film,” Jackson told Variety. “It would have been hugely disrespectful of Tolkien’s idea.” Indeed, even as New Line Films was promising that the final final segment will be in theaters “by or around 2024”, Jackson told reporters that even this schedule poses serious threats to the integrity of the original narrative, and warned that he “won’t be rushed by mere commercial considerations.” Said Jackson: “The final sequences of “The Hobbit” contain such subtleties and nuances, such multitudes, such multitudes of subtleties and nuances, that it may, in fact, be impossible to reach any so-called ‘end’ without mangling Tolkien’s vision.” During a pre-release party in London, Jackson reportedly spent an entire hour in an impromptu story-boarding of Part 18, which would consist largely of a close-up of Bilbo’s hairy feet.
This, by the way, is satire…..only one final Hobbit is scheduled…for now…..
